Shin Splints (lower leg pain)
Shin splints is the common term for medial tibial stress syndrome.
Shin splints is a painful condition of the lower leg caused by inflammation of the periosteum, or fascial covering, of the shin bone, caused by pressure from the surrounding muscles.
Shin splints is a common complaint of athletes who have recently changed from one playing surface to another, changed their footwear, or altered their technique.
If left untreated shin splints can lead to stress fractures.
Myofascial Release for Shin Splints
At the Pain Care Clinic we use myofascial release and advanced massage techniques to work on the muscles and connective tissues of the whole leg. And we encourage clients to rest and regularly apply ice to the affected area in between sessions in case of inflammation.
